Kaya's Letter Vol. 06
Memorable Scenes (Kesennuma Arc) & Kaya's Message
In this final volume of the series, we take a look at Kiyohara-san's memorable scenes from the Kesennuma Arc. We also include messages from Kiyohara-san to everyone in Tome and Kesennuma, as well as to the viewers!
Week 19, Episode 93
The scene where Mitsuo's haircut ceremony as he decides to take over his family's temple.
It was the first time for me to touch a hair trimmer and I was worried about it, but it was a special scene for both Mitsuo and Maeda-san, so I wanted to do it right. I think I looked so serious because I was worried about hurting his head. But Mi-chan (Makita Aju), on the other hand, was very excited and was mowing away happily! (laughs)
Since this shoot, every time I see Maeda-san, he let me touch his head. I like his shaved head! I want to do it someday too. Maeda-san also told me some shaved hair tips, such as "I worry more about sunburn than before" and "I sweat a lot", so I'll be careful when I do it someday! (laughs)
Week 20, Episode 98
The scene where Ryo told Mone, "That just sounds superficial and naive."
What Ryochin says is very true. However, I felt a sense of confidence in Mone, who was upset, but took it in consideration and replied, "If you think I'm being insincere, then so be it". We can't move on if we only do things that are superficial and naive. If we don't do the things that are considered superficial and naive, we can't really move forward, can we?
In this scene, right after I replied "Yes" to Ryochin's "I'm sorry, but that's how I feel right now", I remembered I felt a sudden chill when I made eye contact with Mi-chan. She was really looking at me with a quiet, judging look. Then, as soon as the cut was made, I let out a weak "Haaah" and this time, she was looking at me with a grin. I thought, "You really got me there!" (laughs).
Week 20, Episode 99-100
The scene where Chief Endo as Hamarain Kesennuma's radio personality
There are a lot of new characters in the Kesennuma Arc, but I was surprised when I heard that Yamadera-san was going to play the role of Chief Endo, and I was nervous about our first scene together! Yamadera-san is a great entertainer, so he has a great spirit of hospitality on site. In this radio scene, the director didn't cut the scene at all even after the lines were finished, and Yamadera-san's "big ad-lib performance" started (laughs).
The Kesennuma Arc casts gave me very encouraging words on the day the arc was revealed, which made me happy. Once again, it made me want to work hard until the end of the filming.
Week 21, Episode 104
The scene where Ayako told the reason why she quit as a teacher
Mother had been carrying a very big burden. However, as the actress who played Mone, I was happy Mone had been on the receiving side. Just like when she told her family why she left the island (Week 9), Mone had been on the receiving side until a while ago.
I am encouraged by the way Mone, who has grown up and come back, tries to understand everyone's problems and pain.
Okaeri Mone will end in one more week!
Kiyohara-san, who has just finished filming, has a message for the people of Tome, Kesennuma, and the viewers!
To everyone in Tome
The first time I went to Tome was when I took a private walk before shooting and thought it was a beautiful town. It seems like yesterday that I made a wish at the shrine (laughs). Everyone in Tome welcomed us warmly both on location and when I visited them with Natsuki Mari in "Saturday Studio Park" and their smiles were very memorable.
Thank you very much for all your support.
For me, Tome is a place where I can feel that "the air is so refreshing! and "Onigiri smells so good!", it's place that made me realize once again how grateful I am for various things. It's a place that holds many happy memories for me, so I'm really glad that I was able to come for filming.
Next time, I'd like to take the time to watch an actual Noh performance on the same stage where Sayaka-san and Shoyo-san stood!
To everyone in Kesennuma
I started out in a study mode wondering, "What kind of place is Mone's hometown?". But as I learned more about Kesennuma, I found myself becoming more and more attracted to it. From the pre-broadcast interviews, I found everyone I met in Kesennuma to be very warm, lively, powerful, and they helped me a lot.
Thanks to everyone's support, Mone was able to come back to Kesennuma. Thank you very much for all your strength.
The food in Kesennuma were delicious, including bonito and mackerel! Personally, I'm really interested in a spot near the Kesennuma Fist Market right now, so I'd like to go there on a private visit sometime!
To the viewers
Mone is always honest, dedicated, and hardworking. She is trying her best to face the people around me, the people on the other side of the TV and radio, and herself. Even when Mone sees someone's "shadow", she is able to take it in stride and think of it as if it were her own.
Riko's words "You want to help others, but in the end, it's for yourself, right?" was right, and that's why I think it's really cool that Mone keeps thinking "I'll do my best for someone else".
It was because of this that I really wanted to support her, and I was determined to face her and portray her properly.
Just as I myself feel that I want to have a heart like Mone's, I would be happy if some people who watch the drama are saved by Mone's kindness and have been walking with her. Thank you for watching the drama all this time! Please stay tuned for the final week!
