[Okaeri Mone] Kaya's Letter Vol. 02 - Memorable Scenes (Week 05-09) & Memorable Views

Kaya's Letter Vol. 02
Memorable Scenes (Week 05-09) & Memorable Views of the Location

The original interview can be found here. I decided to translate all the Okaeri Mone contents. I'm in love with this drama and I'm afraid that these interview may be deleted after the series ended. Hence, I'm archiving all the interview before it's gone. I hope that my translation makes sense because it's been awhile since I translate something.

Disclaimer: I'm still a novice translator, hence my translation is not 100% accurate.

In this corner, we ask Kiyohara Kaya, who plays the heroine Nagaura Momone (Mone), what she is interested in. Somehow, the writing "Kaya's Letter" were handwritten by Kiyohara-san!

This issue, we are covering Kiyohara-san's memorable scenes in Week 05 to Week 09. Moreover, we present you with some "sky photos" taken by Kiyohara-san in filming locations, Tome and Kesennuma!

Week 06, Episode 30
The scene where Tom-san tells Mone how her parents got together

It's the scene where we hear the story of "Kouji" (Uchino Seiyo) and "Aya-chan" (Suzuki Kyoka) at Tom-san's cafe. I wasn't able to see my dad's photo when I was young. When I looked at it, I personally didn't find it "interesting" at all, rather it was genuinely cool!

As for the beginning of the relationship between mom and dad, Mone and Mii-chan (Makita Aju) were a little taken aback by it, but I was like "Hmmm..." (laughs). It's dramatic and beautiful. I tried my best to pull in Makita-chan's merciless acting (laughs).

Week 07, Episode 33
The scene where Mone sleeps in the same room with Sayaka-san on the night of the typhoon

Sayaka-san (Natsuki Mari) in her bear pajamas... looked so cute on her! I never thought the day would come when I would be laying down next to Natsuki-san (laughs). The line "This is kinda exciting! It feels like a school trip." was youthful and wonderful.

As a representative of the forest cooperative, Sayaka-san is a kind of person who takes into account the feeling of various people living in the area and does her best to help them. She also has a natural sense of youth, doesn't she? It's cool to be a responsible adult with a playful spirit.

Week 09, Episode 42
The scene where they cut down a 300-years-old Hiba Tree

I had a precious experience of cutting down a real Hiba tree, something I will probably never experience again in my life. The day of the shooting was raining. I had been to this place once for the Week 01 shooting, but I felt there was something very sacred about it.

We were allowed to take pictures with our postures straight. We felt grateful... that we can make use of the trees.

Kiyohara-san herself has released sky photos taken at the filming locations!
- Memorable views of the location -

Location: Kitakami River, Tome
Shooting time: Around 6:00 AM

This is a photo taken when Mone, Sayaka-san, Asaoka-san (Nishijima Hidetoshi), and Shoyo-san (Hamano Kenta) went to see the shifting mist in Kitakami River (Episode 5, broadcast on 21st May). The weather was too clear that day, so we had to reshoot the scene on the next day and were able to perform it in a fantastic landscape.

Location: Kitakami River, Tome
Shooting time: Around 6:00 AM

Seeing the sunrise through the fog, Mone remembered the day of the earthquake and ranted, "But that day.." "I couldn't do anything". I thought this was a scene that could be expanded further in transition from the script to shooting.

In order to do that, I had to expand the Mone's character to the fullest. It was a challenge for me because we just started the shooting. I enjoyed playing as Mone, who is dealing with herself as a human being, which is a little different from her chaotic image in Tome.

Location: Oshima, Kesennuma
Shooting time: Around 5:00AM

This is a picture from a scene at the beach where I went with the childhood friends during the Obon vacation (Episode 15, broadcasted on 4th June). I was particularly impressed by the shooting at this beach in Kesennuma, where I visited for the second time. We thought it would be too early to start the shooting at 5:30AM. But when we got there, we were impressed by how beautiful it was! We all rushed to take as many pictures as we could and said "Hurry up or the sun will rise!"

Mone must have watched this sunrise every morning when she was on the island. Those who have left the island and those who are still here. We all have different paths but we can still be friends like this. I think Mone is lucky to have such friends.

Stay tuned for the next volume!
